Earl Grey Tea Rooms
The Earl Grey Tea Rooms on York’s famously higgledy piggledy medieval thoroughfare The Shambles is a lovely place to escape the crowds outside. The old building is crammed with character and its little rooms feature original oak beams and tasteful period furnishings.
Like many of York’s tearooms it is rather small and you may find it difficult to get a table at busy periods not least because of its reputation for friendly service and wonderful tea and cakes. If it’s busy inside during the summer you may be able to sit outside in their pretty walled garden which is filled with tubs of flowers.
In addition to their delightfully old-fashioned table service of cream teas, light meals, cakes, teas and coffees you can also buy a selection of their products to takeaway in the gift shop. Their beautifully wrapped teas from all over the world make excellent presents.
